The story takes place in the Third Ward Community of Houston, Texas. Judah Hughes, a 17-
year-old artist, constantly finds himself repeating a pattern of fist fighting in the streets and in
school. He also suffers from a mental disorder, which leads him to believe people are out to
murder him. He wears a red hoodie, and a theatre mask to hide scars on his face. Judah takes
medication for his ADHD. Yvette Hughes, Judah’s older sister, and his older brother Victor
Hughes, are his only family. Judah has a strong hatred towards his brother, and believes he’s
responsible for their parents death, which took place a year ago when both were killed in a car
crash. Yvette is taking care of the home and family. Yvette begins to wonder if Judah’s new
medication is changing his moods and causing him to act out in school.
After seeing a performance by a beautiful 17-year-old actress, Rebecca Clemings, Judah wants
to become the newest star at a community theatre she attends. His love for theatre keeps him
focused, but when the cast takes a trip to Rome, Italy, Judah believes the bully Devon, who’s
also playing Brutus, will plot to kill him in real life. Judah takes some broken glass backstage
and wraps it up using a piece of his costume. In the assassination scene, Judah stabs Devon,
killing him in front of the audience. He’s delusional holding the glass and panics. Judah hears
the audience clapping and shouting for an encore, not realizing they’ve just witnessed a live
murder on stage. Judah smiles, and walks out to the audience as the headlights shine bright on his face. The cast and crew are frozen, looking traumatized.
